Ruby Red Shoes Books
Ruby Red Shoes is an aware hare who lives in a colourful caravan with her grandmother, Babushka Galina Galushka. Ruby is gentle and kind and cares for all living things, including plants and trees, animals and people. Ruby is particularly fond of strawberry jam and peppermint tea. She also rather likes red shoes.
Ruby is the star of a series of best-selling children’s books by illustrator and author Kate Knapp. Kate's first book, Ruby Red Shoes, was shortlisted for the 2013 Children's Book Council of Australia Crichton Award for Children's Book Illustration. Her second book, Ruby Red Shoes Goes to Paris, was shortlisted for the 2014 Australian Book Industry Award for Book of the Year for Younger Children and the 2014 Inaugural Readings Children's Book Prize.
You can follow Ruby on her trip to London, where she found out about Toad in the Hole and Bubble and Squeak, or on her journey to Paris, where Ruby and her grandmother meet up with Babushka's brother (Monsieur Gaspar Galushka) and his grandson Felix. She’s also written a book about what’s wonderful about her grandmother and stars in a series of early learning books about counting, the alphabet, time and feelings.
“For children, Ruby’s books are like a retreat as they navigate the challenging world around them. For adults, they are a place to revisit the gentle innocence of childhood; a place where magic and innocence are still alive.” – Kate Knapp
